This ultra-deepwater Semi-submersible Drilling Rig is built in 2005 and classed under ACC ABS A1, AMS, DPS-2. Designed for operations in complex deepwater environments, the rig is fully equipped to support advanced subsea drilling operations.
It features an innovative high-capacity subsea winch used for remote flowline initiation, eliminating the need for a heavy-lift barge and thereby reducing downtime during subsea installation phases.
This rig accommodates up to 176 persons on-board and is rated for operations in water depths up to 2,286 m, with a maximum drilling depth of 11,430 m. The derrick, a Bailey unit, measures 228 ft x 52 ft x 57 ft x 228 ft, and sits atop a drill floor of 17.4 m x 15.8 m. The tubular setback capacity is rated at 1,000 ST, and the rotary supporting capacity reaches 2,000,000 lbs. The maximum VDL, both in drilling and survival conditions, is 15,432 kips.
Hoisting systems include two Hydralift traveling blocks rated at 1,000 ST and 500 ST, respectively, supported by NOV Hitech AHD drawworks (6,900 hp main and 4,600 hp auxiliary). Top drives include a Hydralift HPS-1000 2E (main) and HPS-500 E (auxiliary), both inline. Pipe handling is managed via dual Hydralift Bridge Racker Systems.
The rig is outfitted with four National 14-P-220 mud pumps, each rated for 7,500 psi. Drilling fluid storage includes multiple tanks with capacities of 1,088 m³, 1,892 m³, 774 m³, 721 m³, 755 m³, 2,304 m³, and 3,226 m³. Sack storage includes 5,200 sacks, supported by bulk storage of 295 m³ for barite/bentonite, 4.25 m³ in surge tanks, and 480 m³ of cement.
Conditioning systems comprise 2 x Swaco Gumbo-X conveyors, 7 x Swaco BEM-600 shale shakers, 2 x Swaco 10T4 mud cleaners, and 2 x Swaco Hurricane vacuum degassers. Power is supplied by 8 x Caterpillar 3612 engines (5,100 hp each), coupled to 8 x ABB alternators rated at 11,000 V and 900 rpm.
Deck equipment includes dual Liebherr MTC 6000-150 cranes (173 ft boom, 165 ST @ 71 ft), one Hydralift knuckle boom crane (115 ft boom, 11 ST), and a riser gantry crane rated at 44 ST for vertical riser handling. The helideck is rated for M18 or EH101 helicopters with a diameter of 88 ft.
Safety systems feature 4 x Norsafe GES 50 freefall lifeboats (88 pax), 8 x Viking 25-pax liferafts, and 1 x Norsafe 7.5 Magnum FRC. The rig’s DP2+ system is provided by Kongsberg Simrad SDPM. It is also equipped with 8 x Bodewes 1,150 hp electric anchor winches, connected to 8 x 3.5” Bridon Dyform DB2K wires (10,500 ft each), 8 x 3.25” Nippon K4 chains (3,240 ft each), and 8 x 14.75 LT Vryhof Stevpris MK5 anchors. Propulsion is handled by 8 x 4,300 hp azimuthing thrusters, while DGPS and HiPap LBL systems ensure precise station keeping.
Well control equipment includes a Hydril compact BOP stack with 2 x double and 2 x single 18-3/4 in. 15K rams, supported by GX annulars (10K), and Vetco Super HDH4 and ExF HAR connectors (15K). The marine riser is a 21” Kvaerner Clip (75 ft long), with a 400 MT BOP transporter elevator and two auxiliary winches rated 100 t and 25 t. Riser tensioning is achieved via 12 x Hydralift tensioners with a total capacity of 3,000 kips. A Vetco CSO diverter system (20” max bore, 500/1000 psi) and CCTV throughout the vessel complete the well control and monitoring suite.
The vessel’s principal dimensions are 114.4 m LOA, 87.9 m beam, 74.4 m main deck length and width, and 8.6 m depth to the main deck. The moonpool measures 42.7 m x 8.5 m. Drafts are 20.0 m (drilling), 15.0 m (survival), and 8.3 m (transit). Corresponding displacements are 46,507 LT, 40,936 LT, and 32,804 LT, respectively.
This robust rig is engineered for performance, reliability, safety and flexibility, making it ideally suited for demanding offshore development projects in deep and ultra-deepwater drilling environments.
